God created all the plants of the world and He said that it was "GOOD!". (Genesis 1:12) But when sin entered the world, the plant kingdom changed forever!  Adam and Eve disobeyed and God brought a curse upon the earth (Genesis 3:17-19) - a curse that lasts to this very day! (Romans 8:19-21) Plants that were once harmless suddenly became deadly hazards for man. Thorns grew, some plants became poisonous, others turned into weeds, killing the plants that were useful to man. Adam had to work very hard to grow enough food to provide for his family.

The rose was a thornless flower before Adam and Eve's sin, but now it is known for its sharp thorns.
Genesis 1:12
The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
Genesis 3:17-19
To Adam he said, "Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, 'You must not eat of it,' "Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return."
Romans 8:19-21
The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed.  For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope  that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.

Poison ivy and poison oak are two of the plants that changed after The Curse. They contain an acid-like oil that is extremely irritating to the skin. Poison ivy is easy to identify because its leaves are always in groups of three.

Some plants can kill if eaten. Many settlers traveling west in the pioneering days of America died after they ate poison hemlock. They mistook this plant for the harmless parsey and wild carrot plants.

Adam's sin brought death to the world, and even though God created plants to be eaten by animals, some plants began to eat animals instead. The venus flytrap is an example of a carnivorous (meat-eating) plant. The flytrap's leaves are covered with sensitive "trigger" hairs that signal the leaves to close quickly when touched. The insect is trapped inside and slowly digested and absorbed by the plant.
